40 million credit card accounts stolen

MasterCard International Inc. reported yesterday that over 40 million accounts were stolen by a computer hacker who planted malicious code at a processing center in Tucson operated by CardSystems Solutions Inc. MasterCard spokesman said that the hacker had full access to the database and it is difficult to say how many account were stolen. They are also assuring all customers that no personal information such as Social Security numbers were in the database at the time of the attack. Costumers are not to be responsible for unauthorized charges to their accounts. FBI is investigating the case.
